Tenerife offers the visitor a world of contrasts. It is the biggest island of the Canarian Archipelago, situated in the Atlantic Ocean in an area between the continents of Europe, Africa and America. In Tenerife, therefore, it is always Spring with an average temperature of 20-25 degreees. Tenerife is a volcanic island with coves of black sand in the north, goden beaches in the south, lunar landscapes, exuberant forrests, gorges and a network of protected nature areas, covering almost half of the island. The highest peak of Spain, the Mount Teide volcano with a height of 3700 metres dominates the island and gives its name to one of Europe’s most attractive National Park. All the island Tenerife can be considered a splendid Nature´s museum. THE CLIMATE It’s always nice in Tenerife, it is always springtime. Tenerife’s special situation and the incidence of a number of favourable factors, keep the main temperature mild and most agreeable through all the year. The island’s special orography, which reaches 3.717 metres high (Teide) and the winds themselves provide Tenerife with some microclimates which constitute one of its many attractions. THE SEA The sea is everything for the islanders. Here it is possible to enjoy all the seaside activities in any time of the year. Sometimes, the islander, trusting in his age-old relationship with the sea, limits it or changes it or plays with it to make more attractive. THE LANDSCAPE There are a lot of different landscapes in Tenerife. The same reasons which explain the variety of microclimates are the base of this fantastic mixture of perspectives, colours, scents, sceneries which surprise us constantly, when we tour the island, giving us the impression that in a few kilometres, we have changed from one country to another, even from one continent to another one. THE PEOPLE Kindness is a gift all islanders are proud of. In the city or in the little village, the traveller who comes to Tenerife can be certain of finding two things: the kindness and amiability of the people. The islanders are also a lovers of traditions, from the maintainment of the typical patios and balconies to the preservation of the ancestral crafts. The islanders are also a music-lover and due to his open and agreeable temper, guitars and "timples" are fundamental in any celebration or festivity. THE GASTRONOMY Its gastronomy is based fundamentally on simplicity, but which can be most agreeably surprising. Canarian cooking is anything but complicated and achieves with very little, delicious creations which also possess the flavour of the natural, the authentic. Here we are, an island of flavour. THE HOSPITALITY This is one of the characteristics of the people of Tenerife. The island’s location, a sort of bridge between Europe and America made it a compulsory destination of merchants, adventurers and scientists. The contact, thus, with other cultures and peoples has been always common and frequent, even at times when other territories and nations closed into themselves. THE SPORTS Is evident that all the nautical sports are to be practised here: surfing, sailing, fishing…but you can also practised any other sports outside the water. There are beautiful golf courses, riding clubs, tennis courts, gyms, …. A very nice, though extremely simple, sport is that of walking; in the local folklore it may be amusing and interesting two local sports: the Canarian wrestling and the "banot" or stick, two sports which are noble, strong and skilful. THE EXCURSIONS From your place of residence while in the island, you have the opportunity of knowing really the whole range of landscapes and climates of Tenerife. If you simple drive without any former plan you will probably find wonderful sights: San Andrés, Taganana, La Laguna, Las Cañadas del Teide, Orotava, Vilaflor, Icod de los Vinos. AMUSEMENT Amusing yourself in Tenerife is extremely easy. Besides sports, beaches and festivals, there are lots of things awaiting the tourist. Museums and art galleries offer the most moders works of art. In Santa Cruz there is a permanent exhibition of sculpture in the streets: works by Moore, Chillida and others.
