The monument consists of a Basilica carved in the rock, considered to be the longest in the world. It is decorated with sculptures in black stone, representing the four evangelists. EVENING FAREWELL FESTIVITIES begin with a one hour open bar COCKTAIL RECEPTION serving imported and domestic liquors, white and red domestic wines and a selection of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres. FULL DAY TOURS IN MADRID AVILA – SEGOVIA & LA GRANJA Avila, a fortified city situated on an hilltop in the heart of Castile, is best known as the birthplace of Santa Teresa and for the impressive medieval walls, the oldest and best preserved in Spain. A visit will be made to the Convent of Santa Teresa, built on the site where the Saint was born; the Royal Monastery of Santo Tomas, founded by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel; and the Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral. Continue to Segovia, universally famous for the Aqueduct, an imposing engineering marvel dating from Roman times. Here there is also a visit to the Alcazar, an enchanting fairytale fortress castle and there is also the Art Contemporary Esteban Vicente museum. In Segovia, enjoy a delicious lunch. On return to Madrid there is a stop at La Granja with a visit to the Palace and surrounding gardens. CUENCA Early morning departure heading south west from Madrid and in about an hour and a half, reach Valdecabras, an enchanted town. It is a true monument to nature with huge rock formations where you can let you imagination wander. This is a photographer’s paradise and shouldn’t be missed. Continuing to the city of Cuenca, with it’s unique construction which make a medieval masterpiece. Visit the streets of this city built on a mountain peak, and admire the original construction that makes it different and so unique from any other city of Spain. Lunch in a local restaurant. On the return trip to Madrid, admire different castles and typical villages which will enlighten you knowledge of Spanish culture. TOLEDO One of the oldest and most interesting cities of Europe, reflects the many cultures that have formed it, and perhaps better than any other city reflects the many moods of Spain’s art and history. Visits are made to the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, the ancient Jewish Synagogue, the fortress of Alcazar, the Church of San Tomé and the home of the famous painter, El Greco. There is also a visit to the factory where black and gold damascine steel of Toledo is made. Enjoy lunch in this historical city and enjoy time to stroll and discover the fascinating corners of this Imperial City. TOLEDO – ARANJUEZ A visit to Toledo, just as described above, and after lunch, instead of freetime, continue to Aranjuez. Situated in a beautiful valley between the Tajo and Jarama Rivers, Aranjuez is a city of palaces, gardens and fountains. It is a particularly famous for it’s Royal Palace, the former residence of the Kings of the House of Borbon. After a visit to the palace, which houses a marvellous collection of paintings and porcelains, continue to visit the Casa del Labrador a tiny modest looking house, which in reality is more interesting than the Royal Palace, because of it’s tastefully combined decor and the works of art it houses. Admire the precious gardens, and continue back to Madrid. SALAMANCA 220 kilometres from Madrid, has an entire collection of antique monuments from the Middle Ages and Renaissance of great value and Salamanca as once called "Little Rome". The very famous University, named "Mother of the Virtues of Sciences and Arts" is world famous. The Plaza Mayor, built in 1729 and considered the nicest Spanish Baroque style square will be visited. Also, the Casa de las Conchas, the civil monument most representative of the Catholic Kings architecture. Then see the Old Cathedral from the 12th Century in Romanesque and Gothic style, and the New Cathedral of the 16th Century of different styles: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. The University will also be visited. There is also the Dueñas Convent and Art Nouveau & Art Deco museum. Lunch at a typical restaurant and free time before returning to Madrid. CHINCHÓN & ALCALÁ DE HENARES FULL DAY EXCURSION In Chinchón we will see the castle, the original Plaza Mayor square, the convento of las clarisas, the casa de la cadena & the parador former agustinos monastery. The world heritage town Alcalá de Henares founded by the romans and cultural & humanistic capital of the spanish renaissance during the Golden Age. The cathedral, the university, san bernardo convent & cervantes house-museum. MADRID URBAN RALLY A team building activitiy with different groups to get to know Madrid & do some tests. We deliver to the groups some information, city maps, underground & bus tickets, a brochure & some questions and clues. Visit a tapas bar, be a flea market seller, discover a church, make some handicraft, be a street performer, look for something in a museum, get some sweets in a convent, etc. etc. MADRID CULTURAL RALLY A team building activity with different groups to know the culture of the city provided with photo camera, a route map & city map. Walk through the Austrias madrid to look & find the famous people of the spanish history such as Felipe II, Lope de Vega, Goya, Luis Candelas. Look for a book in an old library, taste a wine in a typical tavern or a tapas bar, be a seller in a flea market, get something in a convent, be a craftman, make a street show, buy something special in a market, etc. ARANJUEZ ACTIVITY A team building activity in this pretty village of Madrid´s province through the city & gardens based in the history of the labyrinth of the "Minotauro". The groups will be named Zeus, Hércules, Poseidón, Cíclopes, Argonautas, Sirenas, etc & different history people such as Teseo, Minos, Ariadna, Ícaro & Dédalo will be waiting for you & will test you during the route. Teams will discover through Aranjuez the old taverns, the typical restaurants, the monuments & the shops. CHINCHON This nice little town makes one of the most enjoyable visits during your stay in Madrid. Heading southeast, on the way to Valencia, at about 35 kilometres, we arrive at Chinchon, famous for it’s anisette and also for the main square which used to a bullring. Then proceed through the narrow streets of this enchanting medieval town to experience an outstanding exhibition of Spanish horsemanship by pure Arabian and Carthusian horses. Watching this show at the bullring while enjoying a few glasses of Sangria, we can also participate in other organised entertainments such as "baby bullfighting". Afterwards, continue by foot to a typical local restaurant for a succulent menu. You will gave the opportunity to enter into the ancient wine cellars, directly below the restaurant, which continue underground for some 13 kilometres. After the meal, pay a visit to the Museum of Antique Carriages and them after this day of excitement and pleasure in the countryside, return to Madrid. EL ESCORIAL & VALLEY OF THE FALLEN The Monastery of El Escorial is said to be one of the architectural wonders of the world. It was built by Juan Herrera, being the personal idea of King Felipe II, who ordered its construction to commemorate the Spanish victory at the Battle of San Quintin in 1557. It was designed to be the burial place of the Royal Family in Spain, and also the home of a religious order and a place of peace and meditation. A few miles from El Escorial, in a wild valley of the Guadarrama Range, lies "El Valle de los Caidos" (Valley of the Fallen) Franco’s monument to the Civil War dead. This is a crypt made by cutting through 850 feet of solid rock. Plans for this monument were conceived in 1940. General Francisco Franco is buried in the Valley of the Fallen.
